Parenting Win vs. Parenting Fail ft. Tonic & Tiaras

This latest episode of #ParentingWin vs #ParentingFail comes from the lovely Chanene who blogs over at Tonic & Tiaras. Like me, she is a mom of two little girls. This post is being published on the eve of the first time we get to meet each other in real life … so exciting!

If this is the first time you are reading one of these posts, I started the series with the purpose of featuring a mom who is willing to share a Parenting Win story and a Parenting Fail story. The Parenting Win stories are where mom’s get to brag about their greatest achievement (other than keeping tiny human’s alive) as a mom. These tend to be really small achievements to everyone else, but to the mom involved they are huge! The Parenting Fail stories are stories where you felt like you really dropped the ball (mine was a doozy!), the point is to make other parents realise that there is no such thing as a #PerfectParent. We all make mistakes but we learn from them and move on. Continue reading “Parenting Win vs. Parenting Fail ft. Tonic & Tiaras”

Reasons I Hate Being A Housewife!

I am a housewife, a Stay At Home Mom, whatever you want to call me. I’ve written a lot about how grateful I am to my husband that we can afford for me to be available to my family whenever they need me.

If you want to read more about my life as a SAHM, you can read my guest post on The Tale Of Mummyhood: Mum Is Best series.

Just in case though: “Thank you my love, I’m very grateful, as I’m sure are you.”

Disclaimer and Recognition

Also … Yes, I realise that working moms do all this AND go to work. Well done you guys! I’m actually jealous! I’d love to get away from all the tasks I refer to below and do something with my day that actually feels meaningful and appreciated whilst also contributing financially to my family and having regular conversations with adults. You guys rock! Continue reading “Reasons I Hate Being A Housewife!”

My #Instaweek Round-up: Aug Week 3

The fact that I usually post these Instagram Round-ups over the weekend, and I’m only getting around to it today now that it’s Monday gives you a small indication of how hectic life has been this weekend.

Day trip to Jozi, braaing with friends, feeling generally rubbish and now my youngest and I both have a cold. It’s been crazy.

Nevertheless, let’s get this show on the road …

No. 5: The bottom of my laundry basket! Can you believe it! I thought it was a myth, but on the 15th of August 2017, I finally discovered it! I never thought the day would come and so had to take photographic evidence! Who knew? Needless to say, it’s full now, as is the spare – basically a weekend hangover for mom’s is double laundry on a Monday.  Continue reading “My #Instaweek Round-up: Aug Week 3”

I Used To Be A Sheep

I have always been one of those people who value other people’s opinions and who can be easily led down a certain path. Saying that, my strong moral compass has almost always managed to steer me straight when I realise I’ve gone a little too far down the wrong path. Thanks mom! Continue reading “I Used To Be A Sheep “

My Instaweek Round-up: August Week 2

Well I am a bit late getting this post out this weekend. I blame my husband and step-daughter who is out from the UK for her summer holidays. Having them both home all week has been awesome, but I also feel like I’m on holiday.

We’ve been busy doing things as a family in the afternoons and evenings when the girls are finished school. In fact, just getting my youngest to go to school has been a trial, she suffers massively from FOMO and we’ve had a few tantrums at the classroom door this week! #givemestrength. As you will see, even my instagram has been a bit slow this week, but nevertheless, let’s get this show on the road.  Continue reading “My Instaweek Round-up: August Week 2”

My Cloak Of Invisibility

As is customary in my house, the TV is on whilst I’m preparing the school lunch boxes and feeding the girls their breakfast before school.

We have an open plan kitchen, lounge and dining area so I keep the TV remote control handy and use it like a weapon whistle.  Continue reading “My Cloak Of Invisibility”

My #Instaweek Round-Up: Wk 7

This week has definitely been a better one than last week. My girls are both much better and they made it through the last four days of school! Just! We are now officially on holiday – wish us luck! Continue reading “My #Instaweek Round-Up: Wk 7 “

On This Day

One of my favourite features of Facebook is the ‘On This Day’ one, when Facebook reminds you what you were doing that day in years gone by. I love it because quite often the memory of the moment that status went up, or that picture was taken almost transport me back in time emotionally and I can relive the memories of that day, the good and the bad memories – either way, it’s always a reminder of how far we have come.

This is how my life has played out on this day over the past 10 years according to Facebook.

My #Instaweek Round-Up: Week 5

This past week has been quite demanding and emotionally charged. My husband left on Saturday and we won’t get to see him for about five weeks. The girls have been really good, but my eldest daughter’s teacher did mention to me that she’s been a bit teary this week. It’s been a tough week for her in particular. She doesn’t cope well with change – daddy going away and us breaking the news about the move and a new school next year. Also, she had to deal with the fact that her best friend, another friend and her little sister have all had their birthdays in the past week and she still has to wait another three whole weeks before it’s her birthday. Poor little love – I’m sure she will make it, despite her claims to the contrary.

She did well on Friday though – her sister’s birthday. Usually she likes all the attention to be on her, but she was a very good big sister and really managed to hold herself back from making it all about her. She’s definitely growing up and I couldn’t be prouder. The best moment came today when we were driving home from the birthday ice-cream treat and they were each quietly staring out their own windows and I heard her say, “Happy Birthday A* … I hope you had a good day.” My heart just melted and there may or may not have even been a few tears in my eyes. It’s those special little moments that get us through the hard days. Continue reading “My #Instaweek Round-Up: Week 5”

Father's Day When Daddy's Away

Father’s Day four years ago was on June 16th. How do I remember that? Because, it was the day our youngest daughter was born.

To say that I peaked too soon at giving daddy the greatest Father’s Day gift ever is a huge understatement. How do you top that? A baby. The cutest, easiest, most charismatic little hellion you ever did meet … that’s her. The baby, the last child! How do you top giving daddy that ‘gift’?

Short answer … you can’t. Continue reading “Father's Day When Daddy's Away”
