A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an Open Letter To My Husband About Mother’s Day. I know he read it so in the run up, expectiations were high. However during the week in the run up to Mother’s Day, we realised we would have to tweak my ‘wish list’ so that it was a bit more aligned with reality. So how did I spend Mother’s Day?
Well we actually celebrated Mother’s Day on Saturday. We had a day full of DIY and renovation plans for Sunday which would not have allowed us time for celebrating which was fine with me. I love a good renovation project. More on that to come.
I spent Saturday morning at the South African Mom Blogs #jozimeetup. You can read my review of my first bloggers meet up here. I loved having something important to do that was just mine. My husband was super supportive and took the kids and they went off and spent some lovely quality time together (apparently). I didn’t ask and they didn’t really say so I assume all was good. He’s a great dad.
After they picked me up after the event was over we made our way across town Papachinos in Sunward Park and met up with my in-laws. The restaurant was excellent as usual, the food, the service, everything. The only disappointing thing was that it was freezing cold and raining so the kids couldn’t play outside and the restaurant ended up cramming everyone who had booked inside which meant it was very loud and everyone’s kids were a little ‘bored’. The girls cleared out my purse of R5 coins for the one and only ‘ride’ available inside within the first half hour, and after that we had little choice but to break out the YouTube videos on our phones for the sake of a few minutes of peace so we could actually eat our meal.
After lunch finished we ended up just heading back to our hotel and chilling. An early night was had by all.
Sunday dawned very early. My eldest is one of those kids who subconsciously remembers that it’s a birthday/Easter/Christmas … whatever day it is, she will wake up super early full of excitement and joy only to come wake me up – the grumpiest morning person ever! Other than my youngest that is! Poor kids.
They were so excited to give me my presents. I got the loveliest pictures made by them at school. How beautiful is the poem from my eldest (featured image)? Just the most special words. It melted my heart. Throughout the whole day, right up until bed time the girls kept coming to me, and giving me random hugs saying “Happy Mother’s Day mommy. I love you.” Maybe I’m not totally failing at this mothering job after all. Precious girls.
I also got this beautiful new laptop bag! It’s stunning. It holds my laptop, iPad, notebooks, chargers and pens etc, whilst also looking stylish and pretty. Dad did good!! Thanks my love.
After a quick breakfast at the hotel we were off with a list as long as my arm of things to do. The rest of the day was spent in CTM & Builders Warehouse choosing tiles and bathrooms stuff. I secretly love doing that stuff so for me it was a good Mother’s Day. I even got a free potted plant from Builders on my way out for Mother’s Day which was a lovely surprise.
Thanks to my husband and daughters for a lovely Mother’s Day weekend. Love you lots. Xx
