An Interview With My Daughter, Now She Is Six!

Today, my eldest daughter turned six. To celebrate this amazing little girl who I love adore and cherish, I thought I would do a little birthday interview with her.

All answers are her own, I did not guide her or prompt her. In brackets are my reactions.

Here’s what she has to say today:

  1. What job does your daddy do? He tells the people what to do, and he works really hard to make the money. (Sounds about right lol)
  2. What job does your mommy do? She works on the computer, she looks after us, gives us healthy dinners, and when it’s my birthday she gives me really great presents, she is the best. (Blessed – high praise indeed. I feel like I’m not doing too badly.)
  3. What is the best thing about your little sister? That she plays with me, and when she chases me it’s kind of fun. (Yes, that’s why we had her, to entertain you. lol)
  4. Who is your favourite person in the whole world? Gaya (Her Granny, my mom, they really do have a special bond.)
  5. What does love mean? It means when somebody makes you happy. (Couldn’t have put it better or clearer myself.)
  6. What does ‘being kind’ mean? It means taking it in turns, and it’s actually about thinking of other people’s feelings. (Yes, she actually used the word ‘actually’.)
  7. If you could go anywhere on holiday, where would you go? To the beach. (Can’t argue with that.)
  8. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be? In Zimbabwe. (Us too my angel, trying not to be sad.)
  9. What do you want to be when you grow up? A vet. (Ummm … I’m not convinced this will happen, she is too soft hearted to deal with the sad side of this profession, in my humble opinion, but time will tell.)
  10. Do you have a favourite pet? Yes, Stinky – my boy. (You can read about their beautiful bond  – The love of a Girl and her Cat)
  11. What was your favourite birthday present? Twozies (Nevermind all the other expensive gifts she got, her bff gave her a pack of Twozies which is her favourite so far.)
  12. What is your favourite thing to do. Playing with my best friend. (They are special friends – it will be sad when we move.)
  13. What is your favourite food? Spaghetti (Yes, spaghetti with olive oil and a tiny bit of gravy, tiny!)
  14. What’s your worst food? Mince (See the gravy from above, mince gravy, but no mince!!)
  15. What’s your favourite sport? Soccer (She’s actually really good, it might be her calling, although I personally think she’s going to be a runner, hockey player or swimmer.)

And that concludes today’s interview.

Those of you who are regular readers of my blog will know that her and I have had emotional challenges in our relationship. She has some issues that I don’t always understand and I don’t always deal with in the best way. I’m getting better, as is she. She is definitely able to express herself better, the older she gets, which helps me understand her better. Motherhood doesn’t actually come with a manual despite all the volumes and volumes of written material on the subject. I’m just doing the best I can and praying it’s enough.

My daughter is also really smart, like really really! I’m not just saying that because I am biased, she really is. When I told her teacher we were relocating, her teacher’s exact words were:

“Oh no, we will be sorry to see her go, she’s one of those children that will do exceptionally well and be an asset to her school”.

How amazing is that? She’s only just 6! I’m super proud of her. Despite her few issues, and emotional challenges, she continues to be a well behaved, well mannered, and polite child who always applies herself and faces all challenges head on. She is an incredibly kind, sensitive and loving child, with a free spirit I hope will keep her happy and humble always.

The world is your oyster my angel. I will be here to help you every step of the way. I love you, your daddy loves you and you are your sister’s whole world. Stay as sweet as you are. I am blessed to call you mine.

It's that heart of gold & stardust soul that make you beautiful.
