Beach Bums

Whilst most kids went back to school yesterday, we are still ‘on holiday’. ‘Holiday’ is a loose term. We’re actually still checking out some stuff here in East London such as schools, houses, etc. whilst planning our move.

To say that it’s getting us all a bit down is an understatement. It’s quite literally exhausting, stressful and confusing. The nightmare statement in our ‘house’ right now is  “We have another house viewing”. If you’re not sure what I mean, check out my post from last week: 5 Top Tips for House Hunting With Kids

Followed closely by my tweet from today … nothing more to say on that right now.

Yesterday morning I decided to give the girls a break from it all and I took them down to the beach. I can’t say that I love beach sand – I really can’t, but yesterday was a fun day. Bearing in mind that it is still winter here in South Africa, I think we hit the jackpot. It wasn’t too windy, the sun was warm, and the tide was out – way out.

Walking along the beach with the girls we managed to find lots of little pools of water that hadn’t ‘drained’ out with the tide and so the water in them was relatively warm. This was perfect for my youngest who is actually quite nervous of the sea when the waves are crashing in.

My eldest is the opposite and I’m quite sure she will become one of those ‘beach bum’ surfer chicks. Like her dad says, “she can be whatever she wants as long as she gets a decent education first”!

Here are a few pictures I took at Gonubie beach, East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa, on a ‘cold’ winter’s day – I think it was about 23 degrees C.

I was trying to show how far out the tide was, and how deserted the beach was.

We have moved a lot and travelled a lot, and even visited the coast a few times, but this next move will be the first time we are living at the coast. The girls are very excited about ‘living by the sea’. Roll on summer. Can’t wait to have all this on our doorstep.

All photos are mine. I took them with an iPhone 6s. I do not give permission for them to be used without my consent.

    1. Thanks lovely. It’s a beautiful place. We found an even more beautiful spot just a bit further up the estuary today. But our heads haven’t quite committed to the reality yet. It’s not easy leaving somewhere that you are happy.
