I Am More Than "Just A Mommy Blogger" ft. High Heels & Fairy Tales

Welcome to the third installment of “I Am More Than ‘Just A Mommy Blogger'” which is a five-part mini-series. Each week I will feature a different South African Mommy Blogger so that we can get to know what else she does with her life other than ‘just being a mommy blogger’. Last week we featured Kim from Muller Kids and this week I am so excited to be featuring Charlene from High Heels & Fairy Tales. Charlene blogs at High Heels And Fairy Tales, a parenting, travel, and lifestyle blog. She is a stay at home mom, homeschooling her little girl, and learning so much along the way.

Charlene and I have been blogging buddies for a while now, and Charlene actually featured me a while ago on her series “Meet The Mommy“. I love that the blogging community are so supportive of each other. It’s a great online community that I am proud to be a part of. Continue reading “I Am More Than "Just A Mommy Blogger" ft. What Does Independence Look Like?

I have not been independent since I was around 25 years old. It was at that age that I moved out of slight dodgy house-share in London and into a flat with my boyfriend (future husband) in York.

Before then I was able to support myself completely. Sure, it was a house-share in a not so trendy part of south-East London and the money I did make mostly went on partying and clothes. I had very little responsibility and no savings, but no debt either! I was living the dream … kind of! Continue reading “What Does Independence Look Like?”

When Boredom Strikes

My girls have point-blank refused to get dressed today and are currently enjoying a self imposed Pyjama Day. I wish they’d told me before I got dressed.

By noon they are bored. I’ve been busy blogging today, I’m co-hosting the #blogstravaganza Linky this weekend and it’s one of those things you need to stay on top of so as to not get behind.

One of the posts I have read was by the lovely Nicole at Tales From Mamaville and her post about alphabet games with food was timed to perfection for me.  Continue reading “When Boredom Strikes”

My InstaRoundUp – ep. 1 October

I’m back with another instalment of my InstaRoundUp where I take the top 5 most liked pictures from my Instagram account and use them to provide an update on what’s been going on with me and us.

First thing to note is that it was my birthday on the 1st of October so most of these pictures relate to that. I am 36 years old. Thirty Six! I feel so old some days, and so unprepared for life the others. How am I in charge of a 6-year-old and a 4-year-old? When did that happen?  Continue reading “My InstaRoundUp – ep. 1 October”

We Survived A Week Without TV!

Last week we had to claim for a new TV from our Insurance Company. The process included them coming to take away the old TV for a damage assessment. That was on Thursday. We got the go-ahead for a new TV yesterday as they deemed the old one irreparable. So basically we had a week without TV. Here’s what happened …  Continue reading “We Survived A Week Without TV!”

Muppie Lounge Giveaway

*Muppie Lounge Giveaway!*

If you’ve been following me on Twitter and Instagram over the last few weeks, you will see that I have been excited about the launch of Muppie Lounge, a brand of clothing designed by a mom, for moms.

What is Muppie Lounge?

Well, in my words, it’s a brand new exclusive clothing range, designed by a mom, for moms who are sick of seeing the same old stuff in the stores, or seeing all your friends wear the same thing, or not being able to find something that is appropriate. It’s a practical, age appropriate yet fun, fresh and fashionable range of clothing that is actually wearable!

Who is Muppie Lounge?

Marishka Mansill Muppie LoungeMeet the lovely Marishka Mansill. This creative, talented and passionate lady IS Muppie Lounge. By day … and night … she a wife and a mom to four, Yes! FOUR! kids between the ages of 8 and 3 years old, keeping herself busy doing the typical school run and taking care of her family and home. On the weekends she runs a local Sunday School for about 30 kids with the help of a friend; she runs a devotional blog on Facebook called Just Saying, and once a year she also co-organises and hosts an annual Christian ladies conference. Oh … and in her spare times she has designed, created, and made “Muppie Lounge”.  She is fearless in pursuit of her passions, and I am privileged to call her a friend.

This inspirational woman has poured herself into every single aspect of this new venture of hers. She drew all the pictures herself in charcoal; she designed the logo and tags herself; every item in the range has it’s own concept story which she wrote herself; she sourced the packaging and presentation of the products – which is special and exquisite; she is even the model for this first range! There isn’t one tiny part of this new and exciting brand of clothing that she hasn’t done herself – she is Muppie Lounge.

What is a Muppie?

Basically, a Muppie is a millennial yuppie. If that doesn’t explain it then check out this article that appeared in the Irish Times by Michelle Miller. She explains it far better than I can!

What makes Muppie Lounge unique?

Because it is. This whole range, and every range to come, will always be a limited edition; the entire brand is limited edition! There will only ever be a set number of each product created so if you don’t buy it whilst it’s in stock, you won’t get it. There won’t be any reprints.

Unique. Special. Limited.

I’m in love with this product and more importantly I believe it in.

Limited stock…. Each time…. No re-prints…..

I’m so privileged to share a few of the first ever pictures showcasing some of the items in this exciting new fashion range for moms.

Am I Even A Woman Anymore?

Lately I’ve been contemplating my life. You only need to read a few of my more recent posts to understand what I’m talking about …

Last month I had to go and get my fingerprints taken at the traffic department. No big deal, it was for my SA Drivers License. Unfortunately the machine was struggling to read my prints. Apparently this is quite common and in cases like this the machine finds it easier to scan your prints if you put on hand-cream or something similar. I don’t know why.

The lady operating the fingerprint machine suggested that I put some hand-cream on, gesturing to my oversized handbag, expecting me to whip some out! Continue reading “Am I Even A Woman Anymore?”

Perspective Required

A conversation today with my youngest went like this:

Her: Mommy, when I find someone to marry, I can get my own iPad and my own iPhone!

Me: You don’t need to be married to get those things. You need to go to school, work hard, get a good job that pays you your own money and then you can buy your own things.

Mom Fuel – What keeps you going?

I love coffee. Okay, okay, let’s face it, most people love coffee, but moms also need coffee. Well, I know I do.

If you search the hashtag #MomFuel on Instagram it’s basically pictures of coffee mugs, cups of coffee, moms drinking coffee, with a few glasses of wine and some strange healthy cereal pictures. But mostly it’s about the coffee, in whichever way shape or form they need it. Here’s one of my contributions, I think I tick two boxes with this one, I’ll let you guess the second one …   Continue reading “Mom Fuel – What keeps you going?”

My Instaweek Round Up – August Weeks 4 & 5

I skipped a week. My bad! Okay, maybe I’m too old to ‘say’ that. But I did. I skipped a whole week. The week before this was so hectic I only did 6 Instagram posts so I thought that it was basically just cheating to choose the top 5. So I waited a week and I now have two weeks of posts to pick the top 5 from.

So here we go …

No. 5: At the SA Mom Blog’s #JoziMeetup last weekend we got this awesome Baff Slime pack for the kids. It’s basically a powder you sprinkle in your kids bath water and after 10 minutes it turns to slime. You get to let them play for hours (okay, realistically a few minutes) without having to actually ‘supervise’, giving you the opportunity to SIT DOWN! Win Win Win. Read my awesome review on this stuff. I need more!  Continue reading “My Instaweek Round Up – August Weeks 4 & 5”
