On This Day

One of my favourite features of Facebook is the ‘On This Day’ one, when Facebook reminds you what you were doing that day in years gone by. I love it because quite often the memory of the moment that status went up, or that picture was taken almost transport me back in time emotionally and I can relive the memories of that day, the good and the bad memories – either way, it’s always a reminder of how far we have come.

This is how my life has played out on this day over the past 10 years according to Facebook.

#ParentingWin vs #ParentingFail ft. Me

Welcome to my latest edition of #ParentingWin vs #ParentingFail. This week I decided I’d share my own stories. I have many wins and many fails, but the two I’m about to share always stick out for me as the most memorable. You’ll see why … trust me, they’re huge!  Continue reading “#ParentingWin vs #ParentingFail ft. Me”

My #Instaweek Round-Up: Week 5

This past week has been quite demanding and emotionally charged. My husband left on Saturday and we won’t get to see him for about five weeks. The girls have been really good, but my eldest daughter’s teacher did mention to me that she’s been a bit teary this week. It’s been a tough week for her in particular. She doesn’t cope well with change – daddy going away and us breaking the news about the move and a new school next year. Also, she had to deal with the fact that her best friend, another friend and her little sister have all had their birthdays in the past week and she still has to wait another three whole weeks before it’s her birthday. Poor little love – I’m sure she will make it, despite her claims to the contrary.

She did well on Friday though – her sister’s birthday. Usually she likes all the attention to be on her, but she was a very good big sister and really managed to hold herself back from making it all about her. She’s definitely growing up and I couldn’t be prouder. The best moment came today when we were driving home from the birthday ice-cream treat and they were each quietly staring out their own windows and I heard her say, “Happy Birthday A* … I hope you had a good day.” My heart just melted and there may or may not have even been a few tears in my eyes. It’s those special little moments that get us through the hard days. Continue reading “My #Instaweek Round-Up: Week 5”

They Were Bored … Honest!

If you read my post from last week about the bird that flew into my house and then proceeded to shit purple shit all over the place, you will understand my problem.

If not, here is a brief recap: there are 2 bushes off my verandah that have hear dark purple berries on them.  Continue reading “They Were Bored … Honest! “

The Little Things I Do For Me!

There have been a lot of posts recently about how mom’s need to look after ourselves and not get swallowed up by being a mom. How we mustn’t neglect our own needs etc. Well this is my version of that post.

We all know what it’s like, the parent who stays home with the kids or gets home from work first usually makes dinner for the family.

Dinner … easy right?

Wrong! Continue reading “The Little Things I Do For Me! “

Pick Your Battles

With my husband on his new healthy lifestyle plan, the girls and I have adopted many of his new eating habits.

For example:

  • we tried Quinoa for the first time, and I ended up making a really yummy chicken, quinoa, mushroom & peppers dish which we all loved.
  • we have switched from white bread to Low GI Wholewheat bread. I really thought they would kick off and refuse to eat it because, you know “it has bits in it”, but they haven’t even noticed – I don’t think.
  • they eat far more fruit than they used to, and I promote fruit or raw veg snacks instead of sweets with no arguments from them.

But … as with every thing in life as a parent, before I can get too cocky about any of this, they feel the need to remind me of my place – parent/slave/substandard-chef. Continue reading “Pick Your Battles”

Reasons Why I'm A Bad Mom … Apparently:

Based on my 5 year old’s reactions to certain instructions that I give her daily, I can only assume I am a ‘bad mom’.

Yesterday MY behaviour caused HER to have a breakdown and advise me of all the ways in which I am indeed, a ‘bad mom’.

Here is her list of grievances which she sobbed at me last night: Continue reading “Reasons Why I'm A Bad Mom … Apparently:”
