How to Start A Blog

I have been blogging for over a year now and I have learnt so much in that time. Not to put anyone off, but it’s a whole other world! Blogging. It’s almost like an alternate universe!

In the last few weeks I’ve had a few newer (than me) bloggers ask my advice on certain aspects of blogging, which has been humbling as there are so many more seasoned and experienced bloggers than me, and there are many newer bloggers who have a larger following than me. After the 3rd or 4th person, I realised that my knowledge has been gained the hard way, and if people want to learn from my experience then that is fine with me!  Continue reading “How to Start A Blog”

My Blog's 1st Birthday!

Yesterday  marked one year of blogging for me. I started out blogging for a few reasons but mainly because I needed a creative outlet. I had all these things I wanted to say and share, and blogging seemed like a great outlet. Also I think my Facebook friends and even my family were sick of my lengthy and opinionated posts.

When I started I knew that there were other mommy bloggers, but I had no idea how many and how huge the industry is, or the role that bloggers play with regards to influencing parents across a range of topics from the best products to the safest practices and even social awareness and responsibility. Not just that, but there are even sub-divisions within mommy blogging – it’s like a huge tree with so many different branches, all rooted in the same basic principles of parenting, loving our kids and trying to make it out alive. *Kidding – not kidding!* Continue reading “My Blog's 1st Birthday!”

My Instaweek RoundUp – Aug week 1

This has been a busy week, but a good week for me. We had an extra week of holidays so it was really good to be back home and in a routine. Some people hate it, but my girls and I need routine, order and a bit of predictability.  Continue reading “My Instaweek RoundUp – Aug week 1”

How Not To Instagram With Me

Last week I wrote a post about How To Be A Good Blogger. The inspiration for the post was really born out of frustration because I had encountered a bit of a brick wall in terms of forming connections with fellow bloggers. The post did really well so I’m guessing quite a few of you agreed with me which is great. Thank you.

This week I have experienced a new frustration which has grown to the point that I felt the need to write this post. Continue reading “How Not To Instagram With Me”

My #Instaweek Round-up: Week 6

Welcome back to my slightly-late weekly round-up where I use the top 5 most liked pictures from my Instagram account over the past week as a prompt for a review of my week.

It’s been a pretty rough week. On Monday I took the girls to the pharmacist as they were both getting colds – cue Round 1 of medication. By Wednesday my eldest was a lot worse so we went to the GP – cue Round 2 of medication. By Friday I was super stressed about her as she was getting worse, not better. My GP referred her to a Paediatrician who diagnosed her with Sinusitis, Bronchitis and Tonsillitis. Cue Round 3 of medication (thank goodness for medical aid!). Poor child was really not great and was struggling with a very high fever of over 39.8 for 3 nights in a row.  Continue reading “My #Instaweek Round-up: Week 6”

How To Be A Good Blogger

I have been blogging for almost a year now. In that time I have learnt a huge amount that I didn’t even know was necessary to run a successful blog. I thought I would just write about my parenting life, and that would be it. How wrong I was!

People start blogs for many different reasons. I started blogging as an outlet, a way of getting all the thoughts that were swirling in my head out there, and as a SAHM I needed something that was my own, that wasn’t about my services to my family, I needed something that was mine. My First Bloggers Meet Up

Eventually, if you want to take this blogging gig seriously, you feel you need to do something to concrete it. We can only hide behind our computers for so long, apparently.

A couple of months ago, I signed up for the South Africa Mom Blogs #jozimeetup. I did it on a whim. I did it without thinking too much about it and I am so glad I did. Continue reading “My First Bloggers Meet Up”

#WhereDoYouBlog?

I’m a busy mom, believe it or not. My kids may be in school for around 5 hours a day, but that doesn’t mean I have 25 free hours a week.

I have errands to run, household management, laundry, cleaning, meal planning & preparation, and of course … blogging. Continue reading “#WhereDoYouBlog?”
