Believing In Me

Blogging is one of those things where you can become so immersed in the world of blogging that you start to think in terms of blog posts, you start to see photos you take from the perspective of “how can I edit this to be a blog post header”, you no longer just put out a Facebook status update without carefully considering your audience, you no longer just put a picture on Instagram without carefully considering your hashtags and you actually know how to use Twitter.

When you step out of your blogging bubble and have to interact with the real world, it can be something of, dare I say it, ‘culture shock’.  Continue reading “Believing In Me “

The Evolution Of Motherhood

Back when I was in the trenches of early motherhood, the days with the demanding toddler, emotionally charged with raging emotions, and the tiny baby, the moving to a new country where I knew no one, those trenches, back in those days I used to look at women who had “stopped” having more kids and think to myself – what on earth do you do with your days?

I could not imagine my life any farther in the future than the next nappy change or feed, the next nightmare trip to the grocery store alone with the girls, or the next tantrum. It was like living in a haze.  Continue reading “The Evolution Of Motherhood”

I Saw You

I Saw You Today …

… the mom just like me.

I saw how when you entered the gym your two little girls were arguing, pushing and shoving each other. The elder one rushed through the turnstile and the younger one tried to follow, trying to emulate her sister, or retaliate, only to get smacked in the head by the bar coming up behind her. I saw how your hands were full of kit bags and car keys and entrance cards, you didn’t catch it in time. I saw the guilty and exasperated look on your face.

It happens. It used to happen to me every time we went there until about a month ago. Now my youngest scoots under the turnstiles. It’s nothing you did wrong. They will eventually learn.  Continue reading “I Saw You Today …”

Why Two Is Enough For Us

You know that kind of rage you feel when your ears get hot! That’s the rage that overtook me the other day and only my good breeding and the fact that my parents raised me to be polite and respectful are the only reasons I held my tongue. That and the fact that talking to a wall would have had a more receptive reaction.  Continue reading “Why Two Is Enough For Us”

To All The Queens

On Saturday afternoon we were called up to Jo’burg at short notice and while my husband was busy I had a few hours to kill. We decided to settle in at one of our favorite family restaurant chains. My husband could leave us there with peace of mind, the girls get to play in a huge outside play area supervised by lots of lovely child minders and make their own pizzas at the ‘pizza bar’ – a glorious concept if ever there was one!  I got to sit and partake in one of my favorite pastimes … drinking wine while people watching!  Continue reading “To All The Queens  ”
